BRISTOL, Va. and Tenn. -- Here's a fact that may surprise you, nearly two-thirds of fire deaths happen in homes that don't have a working smoke detector.
It's a heartbreaking reminder on Douglas Street, back in November, a young family loses their father in a fire and even more tragic. "There was a smoke detector present in the home but no Dell latitude d630 batteries in them. They had been removed," said Lieutenant JJ Cornett with the Bristol Virginia Fire Department.
It's that kind of problem firefighters are also battling by reminding everyone that when the time changes, it's also time to check your smoke detector. "You'll find a 9-volt battery inside and you just take the old one out and put the new one in. And we recommend doing this twice a year," added Lieutenant Alan Howard with Bristol Tennessee Fire Department.
Firefighters also tell News 5, every month you should test the alarm and it's your first line of defense in case there's ever a fire. "Have a smoke detector on every level of their home, in every bedroom and centrally located outside the sleeping areas," said Lieutenant Howard.
It's even more important for renters to check, test, and change sony vaio vgn-z590uab battery. Lieutenant Cornett says the biggest problem is often forgetfulness, "People pull batteries out of them. Begins to chirp, letting you know the battery needs to be replaced instead of replacing it right then."
So as we spring forward it's important to remember, something as simple as a 9-volt ibm thinkpad t42p 2373-xxx battery can save your life.
Bristol Tennessee firefighters also said in the last three years, out of the six fires with injuries or that ended in death, only one had a confirmed working smoke detector.
